Celiac Disease

So lately I have not been feeling well at all and I have been just exhausted to the point where I couldn't get anything accomplished. Everything that I ate hurt my stomach, it was just gross and painful. Then I heard about celiacs disease , an intolerance or allergy to gluten which is found in wheat barley and rye. It's a disease that 1 in 133 Americans have, however 97% of people don't know that they have it. Instead, they symptoms are thought to be something else like IBS or lactose intolerance.

However I read about the symptoms that were a part of it, and it was like someone was describing to me how I had been feeling for the past about six months.I finally felt like there was something that I could pinpoint for everything that I was feeling.
So, I cleared out my cupboard of everything containing gluten, things like pretzels, cherrios, pasta and bread. Then I went to the grocery store and bought gluten-free products, soups, crackers, popcorn, fruits and vegetables etc. There actually is a lot that you can eat on a gluten-free diet, you just have to read the labels carefully to make sure that things are gluten-free.So, this is day two of being gluten-free. And I must say, it is not that hard of a thing to do. And the best part is that I feel great!I have energy again, like I used to. I had forgotten what it feels like! My stomach is not killing me everything I eat a meal. It's just amazing to me!

Another interesting thing children with DOWN SYNDROME ARE EVEN MORE LIKELY TO HAVE CELIACS. One of the biggest signs of this in children, especially children with DS is that they do not grow at the level that they are supposed to. However, once switched to a gluten-free diet they grow taller and their bloated bellies shrink. To get your child tested, they have a blood test available that sees if their bodies are producing the antibodies to fight the gluten. Also a DS child with unknown Celiacs it has been found, has a higher chance of getting childhood cancers.A good website for general information on celiacs is :
